The Practice works hard to maintain an excellent reputation, both as a traditional, patient centred, holistic family Practice, whilst making full use of the latest technology and research evidence to provide the very best care.
We seek to maintain continuity of care by developing relationships as much as possible.
We encourage Patients to see the same Doctor wherever possible. However, our Nurses are playing an ever increasing role in the provision of healthcare and our Nurses take the lead in the Practice on many aspects of managing specific chronic conditions.
Some of our GPs are specialised in a particular area and their expertise may prevent a hospital referral – giving the Patient the opportunity to have their condition managed in the Surgery quickly and effectively.
Abbey Mead Surgery boasts links with the past dating back to before Florence Nightingale, who was indeed a patient of the Practice when she lived at Embley Park. Although steeped in history, the Partners of todays Practice are forward thinking and committed to providing the best service to their patients by embracing changes both looked for and thrust upon them.
There are six Partners, two male Partners and four female Partners. All the Partners have an area of special interest that they enjoy, covering areas from women's health to prescribing issues. Some Partners are actively involved in Clinical Governance, Romsey Hospital Steering Group, Medicines Management and Mental Health Needs. These areas are discussed at our weekly lunchtime meeting, along with any other items of business that may need attention.
Our five part-time Practice Nursing Sisters provide full-time Monday to Friday cover for our patients. Each Nurse has also chosen a speciality in which they take the lead, covering asthma/respiratory disease, CHD, diabetes and travel / immunisations. We have a part time Healthcare Assistant.
We also have links with our attached staff of Health Visitors and District Nurses. We have an I-Talk Team, Psychiatrist and a Smoke Stop Team who hold clinics here weekly and host the newborn hearing clinic regularly.
The Practice boasts a Dispensary and is able to dispense for those of our rural patients who live a mile from their nearest Pharmacy.
Our Management and Administrative team are here to help and provide a comprehensive service to the Partners, Nursing Teams and importantly our Patients. The Practice has worked hard to become paperlight using the In Practice Vision System, are Path linked, scan and READ code all incoming post.
The surgery accommodation is arranged on two floors. Each Partner has a dedicated Consulting Room, with only one being upstairs, a Treatment Room and a Minor Operations Room for our Practice Nursing Team.
Please let the Reception Staff know of any difficulties in using any of our services.
If you wish to see Dr Allen, she can arrange to see you in a downstairs room – please ask at Reception.
Patients and Staff have the right to be treated with respect and dignity.
We maintain high standards of confidentiality for Patients.
The Practice is bound by the Data Protection Act 1998 which governs the storage and processing of personal data held on computer. Patients have the right to access their computer and manual records.
