District Nurses

Through partnership with patients, carers, families and other agencies the District Nursing Service aims to promote and maintain optimum independence.  We aim to provide education, and offer support and skilled nursing to those whose care needs are best met within the community or primary care setting.

The service provides skilled nursing care to the many housebound people in the area.  Patients who are unable to visit the Doctors surgery to see a Nurse due to illness or disability will receive a home visit.

The team includes District Nurses, Community Staff Nurses and Health Care Assistants.  They can provide:

  • Nursing assessments.
  • Assessment and management of wounds and ulcers.
  • Doppler assessments.
  • Palliative/terminal care.
  • Administration of chemotherapy.
  • Advice and support for diabetics.
  • Managements and support for patients with progressive diseases.
  • Continence assessments and advice.
  • Ear care.
  • Short term eye drops.
  • Catheter care.
  • Supply or referral for aids and equipment.

If you are unsure if the District Nurse is able to call, please ring the Surgery and they will be happy to advise you.
